FAQS

How often should I get a massage?

As often as you like.  If it’s your first massage or you haven’t had one  for  quite a while, I recommend once a week for the first 3 weeks and then spread it out to once a month.

Will I be sore after Remedial Massage?

Very likely, but not all the time.  After a Remedial Massage it is common to feel any sore spots or pain that might have caused discomfort that was there in the first place. It usually takes about 24 hours to settle back to normal.  I recommend using a heat pack for sore muscles or something like Tiger Balm to soothe the pain after a massage.

Is it possible to still have a massage if I’ve got cold/flu symptoms?

Ideally, it IS NOT recommended when you’re feeling sick or feverish.  A massage or even something like Manual Lymphatic Drainage would really be a contra-indication depending on the severity of the illness, or if there’s signs of infection.  If you’re on antibiotics it’s also best to wait until you’ve finished the course and you can then choose to receive a massage.

What can I expect if I want to receive a Reiki treatment?

Briefly, I will ask you to lay down on the massage table fully clothed and get comfortable.  I will then hover my hands over your body to balance the Chakras.  I ask for guidance from my ‘spirit guides’ to help me channel the Reiki energy to your body.  I then place my hands around your head and body to find any ‘blockages.’  You may feel warmth or tingling from my hands or see bright colours.  I energetically work on different areas to allow clarity, balance and harmony.  It is always positive and safe and you will feel deeply relaxed and a profound sense of ‘inner-peace’.

What does Manual Lymphatic Drainage do for the body?

MLD is part of the immune system.  It is a gentle massage (light sweeps and ‘pumping’  movements’) over the surface of the skin. The idea is to open the lymph nodes in the body and move the lymph fluid towards the lymph nodes.  They can then do their job of collecting any waste, inflammation or toxins that don’t belong in the body.  The ‘pumping’ of the fluid gradually reaches the ‘terminus’ in the neck area then into the blood stream. It is then excreted through perspiration, breathing, walking or urinating.

Who should receive Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Mainly people who suffer Lymphoedema in their body, especially the legs or arms.  Usually, one limb will be much bigger than the other from severe lymph fluid build-up which is heavy, painful and uncomfortable.  It is also beneficial for clients who have sinus conditions, headaches, dental work or those who have swelling from sports injuries.  It can also help those who have had  post-op surgery, mastectomies or pre-menstrual tension.
