Why Lymphatic Drainage Should be Part of Your Detox Routine

It comes that time of year when you feel your body needs a good ‘Spring clean’ or detoxing.

Usually, that involves detoxing fatty foods and giving up alcohol, coffee and other toxins.

Lymphatic Drainage is a good way to really compliment your detoxing, which helps with waste and toxin elimination from the body.

Who Can Benefit from Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymphatic drainage can be used to treat those experiencing the following health concerns; lymphedema, fibromyalgia, swelling, digestive problems and arthritis. Further, it can be used to treat skin conditions, stress and insomnia.

How Does Lymphatic Drainage Work?

Firstly, it’s ideal to see a professional practitioner who can guide and treat you by giving you Lymphatic Drainage correctly -- especially those suffering from Lymphoedema.

A Lymphatic Drainage treatment will generally involve the opening of lymph nodes at the neck, armpits, abdomen and near the groin through a massage technique.

Next step is to have the lymph fluid drained upwards towards the lymph nodes in the neck by a gentle pumping technique which is then absorbed into the bloodstream.

The lymph fluid (which is carrying the toxins and inflammation) is then excreted out of the body by normal bodily elimination functions.

Regular Lymphatic treatments may be advised for the next couple of weeks to help detoxify the body.

Your practitioner can also demonstrate how to do a self-detox at home by using a light sweeping motion over your body or doing ‘dry- brushing’.

Post-Treatment

Once you have had a treatment then it is time to drink plenty of water (preferably 6-8 glasses a day) to continue the elimination process.

Walking is also beneficial to keep the lymph fluid moving along, as well as any other light exercise.

Most importantly, use this time to ‘slow down’ and take care of yourself!
